SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS

A decision will usually be made by 6 a.m. and recorded on radio stations, television stations, the school phone greeting, and the DISTRICT website.
All school events, including evening events, are cancelled for that day.

                            SCHOOL DELAYED OPENINGS

A decision will usually be made by 6 a.m. and recorded on radio stations, television stations, the school phone greeting, and the DISTRICT website.
The delay will normally be 90 minutes, meaning that buses will arrive 90 minutes later than usual and school will begin at 10:30 instead of 9 a.m.

EMERGENCY EARLY CLOSING
(1:25 dismissal)

A decision to dismiss early will usually be made by 10:30 a.m.
and will be posted using the notification methods listed below.
All evening events, Parks & Recreation programs, Brownies/Scouts,
Religious Ed., and After School Care programs are CANCELLED.
Your child will follow the dismissal plan you sent to school that day.
If a change needs to be made, you will need to call the main office.

NOTIFICATION METHODS

The size of our enrollment and the limited number of parents who volunteered to be the “call parent” have effectively eliminated the “call chain” as a notification option.

In order to assure that all parents have access to up-to-date information regarding school closings, delays, and early dismissals, I urge you to use one or more of the following notification alternatives.  Please post this list of sources at home and at work so you will have it available when needed.

  1. Email Listserve

We will use our email listserve to send emergency messages to you.  We are currently in the process of inputting your email address on our school website:  www.er9.org/sses.  An email will be sent to you that will detail early closing information.

  1. School Phone Greeting

261-3607

The phone greeting will be changed to include information about early closings, delays, and school closures.  Information will be in the initial greeting, therefore there is no need to connect directly into the main office.

  1. Radio/Television

The following radio and television stations provide up to the minute information regarding school closings:

WTIC         (AM 1080)                  Channel 12 news (CATV)

WICC        (AM 600)                     Channel  8  news (WTNH)

WLAD       (AM 800)                     Channel 3 (WFSB)

WCFS         (AM 1260)                   Channel 30 (NBC)

WEBE         (FM 108)                     Regional News Network (WRNN)

     WEZN        (FM 99.9)

  1. District Website

              www.er9.org

Information regarding emergency early dismissals will be posted on the district website as soon as it is available.

5. Voice REACH

We will NOT be using this system for school delays, early dismissals, or closings due to snow.  However, we will use this to notify parents of an unanticipated school or area-wide emergency.

Voice REACH is an electronic phone messaging service from Xpedite.  It will track the number of live deliveries, hang-ups, machine recordings, busy signals, no answers and errors. If you have a privacy block on your home phone, please call the school to give us your cell phone number to ensure you receive my emergency call.
