Resources:
Overview -The
SSES Media Center's book collection contains over 15,000
volumes. There are also 22 and 30 student computers in the Media
Center and Computer Lab respectively. Each computer is equipped
with an array of Microsoft Office software products and Network
Applications, as well as access to the Media Center's online
catalog and the Internet. The Media Center also provides a
variety of digital resources including subscription databases,
online encyclopedias, child-friendly search engines/subject
directories, multi-media instructional materials and other
content that supports information and technology literacy.
Materials Selection
Policy - Prior to acquisition, all materials are
carefully evaluated for content and age-appropriateness and
overall contribution to a balanced collection with strong appeal
for elementary-age children. Special consideration is given to
materials with a direct connection to the K-5 curriculum and
which support the development of strong reading skills.
Additionally, recommendations from teachers, students and
reviews by respected journals and professional organizations are
also considered.
Funding -
Purchases of materials for the collection are supported by the
school's annual budget, as well as by generous support from PTA
fundraising initiatives, such as a highly-successfully, Birthday
Book Club. In the area of technology, the Media Center and
Computer Lab have also benefited from the advocacy and financial
support of the Easton Learning Foundation (ELF.)
