.COM Sites: The sites listed with .com may have items to sell you, have a particular point of view, or provide you with advertising that you may find annoying.  However, based on our search, we have found these sites to have plenty of free and helpful information for parents for the purpose of helping your students become successful learners.  We offer these sites to you in that spirit and caution you to proceed at your own risk.

www.parentsmart.com:  This site provides extensive opportunities for you to search relevant topics related to your child’s education.  We recommend that you click on the button called “About ParentSmart” to begin your visit on this site.

www.kidinfo.com:  This site refers to itself as the “BEST Homework and student/Teacher/Parent Reference Resource.”  Before you delve into the site, we suggest that you scroll to the bottom of the home page and read the section, “Learn more about: Kid Info...”

www.kidsource.com:   Parents developed this website with the purpose of making a “positive and lasting difference in the lives of parents and children.”  Be sure to click on the “About Us” button at the bottom of the home page before entering the site.  Then look for the pull down menu at the top of the page, entitled, “Explore the Site” and click on K-12 for some excellent articles on a variety of educational topics.

www.safesurf.com/kids1.htm:  Clicking on this site brings you into Kid’s Wave, a site that gives you a list of safe places for your children to go on line.   Check out the categories on the first page and go from there.

www.smarterkids.com:  This site is a commercial venture with shopping opportunities, but it also wants to give parents helpful advice.  When you hit the home page, click on Family Resource Center at the top, then on Education, and then look for “44 Tips for School Success” currently in the lower right column of the page.

www.geniefind.com: This is another .com site, but one that has a several helpful articles for parents that are free for the taking.  Genie Find Kids claims to be "a human edited, safe search engine and directory for kids.”

www.useekufind.com: This looks like a web site with a point of view, so enter it with that in mind.  However, if you click on Family/ School located on the home page, you will find many interesting sites to help you as a parent.  This is worth a look.

www.crec.org:  This web site is managed by the Capitol Region Education Council that is located in the Hartford metropolitan area.  Click on “The Capitol Region Educator’s Portal” on the home page and then examine your options in the “Parent” section of the portal.

www.iconn.org: This is a wonderful site co-sponsored by the Connecticut State Library and the Department of Higher Education.  You can access the databases on this site by entering your active library card from any Connecticut library.  This site is great for research on many questions that you may have as a parent or that your children may have as inquisitive students.  Click on the button called, “Resources for Schools.”  To access from home or office, you must enter your Connecticut library card bar code number.
