News/Announcements

The first day of school for Easton, Redding and Region 9 will be Wednesday, August 27, 2008.

Enjoy your summer!

On May 30, 2008 at the nationally acclaimed Music in the Parks Festival (held at Lake Compounce), the Helen Keller Middle School Jazz Band competed against schools throughout the region and won first place in their division with a rating of "superior."  The jazz band is under the direction of teacher
Robert LaValle.

On the same day, the Helen Keller Middle School Mixed Choir and Select Choir won first place in their division with each choral group receiving a rating of "excellent."  The choirs are under the direction of teacher Megan Kirk.

Helen Keller Middle School was among the Connecticut schools recognized by Governor Rell for being top-performers in the 2007 Governor's Summer Reading Challenge program.  The award is based on the average number of books read per student and the percentage of students participating.  The awards ceremony was held on April 25, 2008 in Farmington.

Congratulations to Karen Woodford, second-grade teacher at Samuel Staples Elementary School, for winning the 2008 Weller Excellence in Teaching Award for her project, Learning Apple-y Applied.
