One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar...Helen A. Keller

Description of the Project

Helen Keller Middle School's New Haven Math Trail
Students will spend the day in New Haven on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. They will work together to collect the data needed to solve the mathematics problems presented in their Math Trail packets. They will then discuss strategies to solve the problems and record their solutions in their packets.

Before we leave, students should preview the questions and decide what they will need to bring with them when we go to New Haven. That list should include (but is not limited to):
  • TI-83 or TI-83 Plus graphing calculator (at least one per group)
  • A sheet of formulas you think you might need
  • Measuring devices, such as a tape measure or ruler
Solutions to the problems should be organized and easy to interpret. You should include a diagram where appropriate and show all your work. Correct answers that are supported by clear and complete explanations and all work will earn you full credit.
