October 2007
DEFINITION

Grading Rubric Resources-Websites Student  Work

Attachments: Individual student work outline (due in class October 25) and grading rubric

Purpose of Ecosystem Research Project: Student will gain a clear, in depth understanding of both abiotic and biotic factors within an ecosystem, and understand how a change in one factor can change an entire ecosystem.

Format of Research Project: Power Point presentation, to be shared with teacher and classmates

Requirements:

  1. Minimum requirements for a one to two person team:
  • Research a biome of your team’s choice. Refer to your previous homework assignment: "Ecosystems and Biomes." (Note: For the students who did not complete this assignment- it’s completion is due in class October 24th). List all the biotic and abiotic factors you would expect to find in your chosen biome.
  • Develop and represent a food chain that you would expect to find in your chosen biome.
  • Remove or change one abiotic or biotic factor in your biome. Predict how you would expect the entire biome to be affected.
    1. Minimum requirements for a three person team:
  • Meet all requirements listed for a one to two person team, but develop and represent a food web in place of a food chain.
    1. Minimum requirements for a four person team:
  • Meet all requirements listed for a three person team.
  • In addition, remove one predator or one prey from a food chain or food web. Predict how the populations of organisms in your biome would be affected.
  • Remember to use Citation Machine for your "Works Cited".

Five point bonus available to all sized teams: Choose one "challenge" question (generated previously from classmates- list of questions to be provided) and answer question completely, clearly, and concisely!

    Due dates:

    • October 23 and October 24: Computer Lab. Teams should enter Computer Lab knowing what biome they will research, and what information each team mate is focused on obtaining.
    • An additional day will be scheduled for joining team work into a final Power Point presentation.
    • Due October 24: individual student work outline (see enclosed copy).
    • Presentation dates: to be announced.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE ENCLOSED GRADING RUBRIC.
