Today you will embark upon a journey, a search to
find a home. Each group will conduct research on a group of pilgrims –
immigrants to America. Why would someone leave a familiar area of family
and friends for the opportunities offered in the United States ?
Each group of students will be assigned a country
. Classroom materials, Media Center material, computer references as well
as interviews will provide access to the answers you seek. All group
members will take notes on:

to present)
- Conditions/reasons to leave
- Trace the Journey to the U. S.
- Immigration Process – Ellis Island and Beyond
- Assimilation into the U. S.
Within each immigrant group one additional
topic will be assigned to each group member; they are as follows:

surrounding countries (in your hand)

history of symbolism, work in your hand)

S.

All members will design and participate in a live
group presentation featuring information on the country and people that
were studied. Consult the unit’s calendar as well as the
Keller website for assignments , requirements and due dates. Each
