 ·        The “Adopt An Element “project will be presented either as:

o        an informational brochure (bi-fold or tri-fold)  

o       or as a poster (the minimum size - 8 ½ " by 11"; the maximum - poster board size).

·        You will spend one double class period to start your research.  You will gather information on this element to answer the following questions on the attached Research Guide:

o       What are the element’s symbol, atomic number and atomic weight?

o       How did the element get its name and its symbol?

o       Where is the element found?

§         (Which countries or regions?  In underground mines? 

o       How is the element found?

§         (Purified from other substances?  Man-made in the lab?)

o       Who discovered the element? 

§         When?

§         How?

o       What are the elements physical and chemical properties?

§         (such as color, phase at room temperature, melting point, boiling point, numbers of protons, neutrons & electrons, is it flammable, explosive, radioactive, etc.)

o       How is the element used historically?  How is the element used currently?

o       Any other interesting facts (minimum ten) for your element?

·        You will present this information in final form as an informational brochure (bi-fold or tri-fold).

·        Using Citation Machine, include the proper works cited format on the reverse side of your “Research Guide”. 

Your sources MUST includeTwo encyclopedias (one printed/hard copy; one electronic); two web sites (links provided below); and one additional source. 

o       Additional sources are optional.  Use the proper format from the Citation Machine.
