One of the
most interesting civilizations of the ancient world is that of
Egypt. From fascinating pharaohs and enormous pyramids to the
mummification process, ancient Egypt offers a tremendous number of
topics about which to research.
Listed
below are the criteria for successfully completing this research
project on ancient Egypt. Most of the research will be done in the
classroom and in the Media Center. However, each student will be
responsible for “filling in the gaps” at home if any further
information is needed. Students also need to ask parents to help
edit the final report/PowerPoint for spelling, grammar and
punctuation.
OBJECTIVE: To enhance knowledge of the ancient Egyptian
civilization by using a multi-media approach to conduct research on
a self-selected topic. Students will ultimately present a written
report or PowerPoint presentation, as well as a “visual” to the
class. Each student must also answer the following “BIG QUESTIONS”
in their reports:
IF YOU
COULD SPEAK WITH ANYONE RELATED TO YOUR TOPIC:
(A)
WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
(B)
WHAT WOULD YOU ASK THEM AND WHY?
(C)
WHAT DO YOU THINK THEIR RESPONSE WOULD
BE?

PROCEDURE/REQUIREMENTS:
1.
This project may be completed alone or
with a partner. The requirements for this project will be greater
and the expectations higher if completed with a partner. Each
student, whether working alone or with a partner, will receive an
individual grade for his/her contribution to the project.
2.
Choose one of projects on the attached
sheet, where there are also some ideas for visuals. If there is a
topic of interest to you that is not listed, please see me so that
we might discuss it. NO MORE THAN THREE STUDENTS OR GROUPS IN THE
CLASS MAY CHOOSE THE SAME TOPIC. Students’ names will be randomly
chosen to sign up for topics. A completed Student Checklist
of requirements and due dates for this project must be submitted by
each student or group.
3.
As we conduct research in school, you will
be responsible for maintaining an in-school Egypt Folder to
hold all notes taken on your topic. You are also responsible for
saving your computer research under Student Work on the
Network. In addition, you must keep track of all resources
you use in order to create a Works Cited Page (minimum of
three sources.)
4.
The final product of this project will be
a polished report or PowerPoint on your chosen topic (minimum
of two typed pages or six PowerPoint slides if you work alone, three
pages or eight slides if working with a partner). Students must also
produce a visual (no larger than a desktop) that relates to
the chosen topic. Both the report and PowerPoint must contain at
least two graphics (scanned or inserted as jpegs.) The Works
Cited Page must be attached to the back of your report or be the
final slide in your PowerPoint. If you choose to do a PowerPoint,
you must make a hard copy of all slides for me to grade.
5.
All students will present their research
and visuals in front of the class on a scheduled day. Parents are
invited to come to the classroom for these presentations. A
checklist of due dates for each phase of this project is attached.
6.
Visuals must be labeled (with your
name and what the item is) and will be displayed in the classroom
for a few weeks in an “Egyptian Gallery” format.
7. This project is
double-weighted and will graded according to the criteria listed on
the attached grading sheet. USE THE CHECKLIST TO MAKE SURE
YOU’VE COMPLETED EACH REQUIREMENT OF THIS PROJECT!
