Paragraph One

Identify the person about whom you have read and give the following information:

Name

When and where the person was born

If the person is no longer living, give the year he/she died

The most important point is to briefly explain why this person is worthy to have a book written about him or her.

Do not go into a lot of detail here. This is only the introduction. You will go into detail and give specific examples when answering the other two questions.

How is this person important in history?

What influence or contribution did this person make?

How will history remember this person?

Example:

George Washington was born in Virginia in 1732 and died in 1799 at the age of sixty-seven. He is considered the "Father of Our Country" because of his military leadership in gaining independence from England, and he helped shape the new United States as its first president.

If the person is not important to history, be sure to identify what the person accomplished in his/her lifetime.

Question: Identify the person’s greatest challenge and discuss how he/she handled it. Give specific examples from the book.

It is most important that you identify what the person’s goal or objective was first. Then identify what the person’s greatest challenge/problem was and how he/she handled it. The challenge should be connected to the person’s goal. You need to give specific examples and details from the reading. Without the "proof," you have only given your opinion.

There is no magic number of paragraphs you should have to answer this question. Each detail or example should be a separate paragraph to answer it adequately. Don’t forget the conclusion.

Question: How did this person inspire others? Does this person inspire you?

To answer this question adequately, state your opinion and support your opinion with examples from the book. This question could be answered in one or two well-developed paragraphs.

Question: What new learning or insights did you gain from reading this book?

How you answer this question will reveal how thoughtfully you read the book. Again, specific details and examples from the book are necessary to answer this question adequately.

Bring your evaluations and opinions to answer this question. There are no right or wrong answers if your thoughts are clearly expressed and supported by details/examples from the biography.
