Take a Walk in My Shoes...
Grade 7

Requirements


 

Students will:

  1. work cooperatively, in groups,  to research information on the cultures of their countries.
  2. explore secondary sources, using the cookbooks from the Easton Public Library and the Helen Keller Middle School Media Center.
  3. Search for and select a recipe that is typical to the country and one that you will be able to make.

  4. Working in groups, select sub-topics of culture (equal to twice the number of students in your group) that are of interest to you, research and answer the guiding questions.

  5. explore the pre-selected websites to gather information relevant to their country.
  6. Search and locate appropriate graphics to match the sub-topic and save as a .jpeg.
  7. Insert graphics for each sub-topic being research.
  8. organize information using Inspiration and the color-coded notes pages
  9. use the correct "Works Cited" format when citing resources
  10. create a two-three page product to be included as part of the class cookbook (Publisher), using the following technology competencies:

     

    • starting programs

    • toggling back and forth between open programs

    • using drop-down menus

    • saving files to the network

    • opening browser

    • searching the Internet by narrowing down the scope

    • locating, copying and pasting the url for the correct Works Cited format

    • saving pictures as .jpegs

    • signing and adhering to the District Acceptable Use Policy

    • changing font, size and color of text

    • aligning text

    • bolding, underlying and italicizing text

    • selecting the correct printer for printing

  2. Describe it in terms of fabric, color, the way it is worn and who wears it.

  2. Describe a unique form of dance or style that is important, well-known and/or popular?

Festivals/Events

  1. Is there a unique festival/celebration held in the country?

  2. Where is the festival held?

  3. When is the festival held?

  4. Who attends the festival?

  5. Why is it held?  What is the background and history of the festival?

  6. What specific events take place during the festival?

  7. What types of food are eaten during the festival?

Holidays

  1. Select a holiday.

  2. How is the holiday celebrated?

  5. Why is it celebrated?

  6. Describe any specific customs that are associated with the holiday.

Monuments

  1. Is there a famous national monument in the country?

  2. Where is it located?

  3. When was it built?

  4. To whom is it dedicated?

Music

  1. What is the significance of music in the country?

  2. Describe a unique musical instrument or style that is important, well-known and/or popular?

Sports

  1. What is a popular sport in the country?

  2. Who plays this sport?

  3. Where is it played?

  4. When is it played?

  5. If the sport is a team sport, how many members are on the team?

  6. Is there a national sport?  Describe it.
