GOAL:

To develop an awareness and understanding of different architecture (buildings, memorials, monuments, bridges, statues and tunnels) throughout the United States.

Requirements:

Students will:

1.       select a form of architecture of research

2.       use recommended resources:

a.       pre-selected websites

b.      databases from the HKMS website

c.       print materials from the Media Center, including encyclopedias,  
   books and almanacs

3.       answer the following questions regarding the structure:

  1. Name

  2. Location

  3. Year built

  4. Reason built

  5. Size

  6. Length of time to build

  7. Designed and built by whom?

  8. Cost

  9. Human interest story about the designer

  10. Significance/meaning, if applicable

  11. unique piece of information

  1. download Student Checklist, save to your folder naming it as follows:  topic followed by first name of student
     

  2. Use Student Checklist to stay on schedule
     

  3. conduct research
     

  4. take notes using the "Notes" pages in the Media Center

  1.   create a web in Inspiration organizing the information
     

  2.  create an eye-pleasing, tasteful brochure in Publisher including all of the information from the Inspiration web plus a photo (in .jpeg format) of the structure
     

  3. create a Works Cited using Citation Machine
     

  4. use the correct method and location for saving work
     

  5. present the information to the class using the proper presentation skills:

    • eye contact

    • projecting voice

    • "owning" the information ... not reading it!
