Project Title: Un Cuento de Fotos (A Story of Photos)
Project Purpose: To improve writing proficiency with a focus on the preterite tense.

CORE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will:

  1. Develop a story line that incorporates specific grammatical components:
    1. Chapter 10 Vocabulary
    2. Preterite tense, regular and irregular verbs
  2. Create a storyboard (rough draft) that serves as a sketch of each photo.
  3. Write the story, as a group, ensuring that are at least 4 sentences for each photo.
  4.  Read the story through, together, for comprehension, fluency and "flow".
  5. Meet, as a group, with teacher for suggestions and final revisions.
  6. Make final revisions and type final copy.
  7. Take pictures, with digital camera, to bring each segment of the story to life.
  8. Using Microsoft PhotoStory, upload photos.
  9. Make voice recording of the story to link to the photos.
  10. Add other create elements such as title page and music.
  11. Present final photo stories to the class using the SmartBoard.
Curriculum Goals Technology Integration
World Language:
  • Write, review, and edit own writing with teacher guidance.
  • Prepare and present brief reports on thematic topics (e.g., weather report, commercial, etc.) using a variety of formats (e.g., brochures, dioramas, puppets, travel posters, etc.)
  • Use primary bilingual dictionary, picture dictionary or glossary to access information.
  • Make a brief presentation to class in the target language.
  • Prepare audio or visual message in the target language for the class.
  • Comprehend the main ideas when listening to peers.
  • Work in groups to plan events and activities to be carried out in the target language.
  • Use oral and written language to construct their own stories.
  • Produce coherent and accurate written work for a variety of purposes.

Language Arts:

  • Create a graphic organizer to organize ideas
  • Interpret text by using prior knowledge and experiences
  • Use a variety of monitoring and self-correcting methods (skimming, scanning, reading ahead, re-reading, using resources, summarizing, re-telling, re-adjusting speed)
  • Interact with others in creating, interpreting and evaluating written, oral and visual texts.
  • Engage in a process of generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing or presenting.
  • Proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.
  • Speak and write using conventional patterns of syntax and diction.

Students will:.

  1. Start a program (Microsoft Photostory)
  2. Switch between programs (Microsoft Word and Photostory)
  3. Create a folder on the Network for project
  4. Use Microsoft Word to type and edit story (copy/paste, change font size and color, align text, bold, underline, italicize, use Spellcheck in Spanish and print the document)
  5. Use Word Language Tools to write and edit story
  6. Use digital camera
  7. Upload photos from digital camera to Student Work on the Network
  8. Transfer photos from the Network into Photostory
  9. Record voice and or music
