Project Purpose:
Work in a cooperative team setting to complete project requirements

CORE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will:

Work in a cooperative team setting to complete project requirements

Newspaper:

  • Create a newspaper of all of your top stories.
  • Select the type of news to research (school, town, world and weather).
  • Identify at least 3 artists of interest.
  • Research news topic using school website, town newspaper, the Internet and major world newspapers.
  • Create a web to organize ideas for each article.
  • Write a rough draft of the article in the target language.
  • Peer- edit the article with three different classmates.
  • Conference article with the teacher.
  • Type final copy of edited article in the target language.
  • Create newspaper by merging team articles.
  • Broadcast:

  • Write, direct and produce a Spanish news program.
  • Condense information from the articles for an oral presentation.
  • Add creative components to the news broadcast to make it authentic.
  • Collect and use props and costumes.
  • Rehearse news broadcast several times in order to perfect pronunciation.
  • Present news broadcast in target language.
  • Watch filmed news broadcast to write critiques of the presentations.

    World Language:

    • Write, review, and edit own writing with teacher guidance.

    •  Prepare and present brief reports on thematic topics (e.g., weather report, commercial, etc.) using a variety of formats (e.g., brochures, dioramas, puppets, travel posters, etc.).
       

    • Use primary bilingual dictionary, picture dictionary or glossary to access information.
       
    • Students will understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics.
       
    •  Students will acquire and use information from a variety of sources only available in the world language, using technology, print, audiovisual, media, data and human resources.
       
    • Students will reinforce and expand their knowledge of other areas of study through the world language.

    Language Arts:

    • Create graphic organizer to organize ideas prior to the writing process.
       
    • Interpret text by using prior knowledge and experiences.
       
    • Use a variety of monitoring and self-correcting methods (skimming, scanning, reading ahead, re-reading, using resources, summarizing, re-telling, re-adjusting speed).
       
    • Interact with others in creating, interpreting and evaluating written, oral and visual texts.
       
    • Engage in a process of generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing or presenting.
       
    • Proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.
       
    • Speak and write using conventional patterns of syntax and diction

     

    1. Use Inspiration, as a graphic organizer, to create a tool for organizing information prior to the writing process.

    2.  Use Internet to research specific news topics.

    3.  Use Internet search engines to obtain pertinent graphics for each article.

    4.  Insert graphics, using the copy and paste technique.

    5.  Critically evaluate the websites for relevancy.

    6.  Use Microsoft Word Language Tools to write a target-language essay.

    7.  Use Microsoft Word Language Tools to review and revise essays.

    8. Use Microsoft Publisher to create an authentic newspaper.
